WHY ISRAEL? (Part 1 of 3)
“God, why do you seem to have rejected Israel?”

Romans 11:1-36

4 ways in which the word ‘Israel’ may be used –
• It means Jacob (renamed Israel)
• It means Jews (‘the children of Israel’)
• It means Christians (spiritual children of Abraham)
• It means the Israeli nation

1. GOD’S GRACE TO THE REMNANT (VV1-10)
• First question: “I ask then: Did God reject his people?” (v1)
• Answer: “By no means!” (v1)
• Argument: Israel’s unbelief is not total (vv1-10)

a. The “remnant chosen by grace” (vv1-6)
b. The majority excluded by unbelief (vv7-10)

2. GOD’S SALVATION PLAN FOR THE WORLD (VV11-32)
• Second question: “Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery?” (v11)
• Answer: “Not at all!” (v11)
• Argument: Israel’s unbelief is not final (v11-32)

a. God’s salvation plan outlined (vv11-16)
b. God’s salvation plan illustrated (vv17-24)
c. God’s salvation plan fulfilled (vv25-29)
d. God’s salvation plan summarized (vv30-32)

3. TO GOD BE THE GLORY! (VV33-36)
